A National Institute on Aging Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratory

About Us

Mission & vision

Why the Collaboratory exists

Technology for older adults is abundant. Technology that has been rigorously evaluated, works in real homes, and actually reaches the people who need it is not. The Stanford AITC exists to close that gap.

Our vision is a care system in which an older adult's support is matched to their individual trajectory, environment, and preferences, continuously and without requiring them to become a patient first.

Four principles govern the work:

  • Co-design with older adults, not consultation after the fact
  • Evaluation before enthusiasm
  • Equity as a design constraint
  • Open methods, code, and data by default

Our theme

Precision Health & Intervention

Every AITC brings a distinct scientific focus. SU-AITC advances AI- and technology-enabled, precision health–driven interventions for aging and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD).

01

Understand the individual

Integrate multimodal information (behavioral, sensor, imaging, and clinical data) to characterize individual needs, trajectories, and context.

02

Personalize intervention

Use AI and precision-health approaches to identify who may benefit from an intervention, what approach may be most appropriate, and when it should be delivered.

03

Adapt and evaluate

Support interventions that can respond to changing individual needs while measuring outcomes, mechanisms, engagement, and real-world impact.
